If you are looking for a workout to maintain or increase your fitness level, with less impact on your joints, a “liquid gym” is the place to be. Aqua Power is a full body water aerobics workout, combining cardio and toning exercises set to fun, upbeat music. Swimming skills are not required.This is a Drop In Program. Please pay the drop in fee at the front desk. Open to Residents and Non-Residents.

Medford Recreation has become an authorized provider to teach American Red Cross swim lessons at Tufts Pool this Summer. Swim lessons will remain the same as previous years, but our Instructors will now be teaching the Red Cross curriculum. Please register your child for the level you feel is appropriate. On the first day of class, Instructors will be evaluating skills and move children into the appropriate levels. Beginners: American Red Cross Level 1- Introduction to Water SkillsIn this class, children are new to swimming. Students will learn how to enter & exit the pool, put their face in the water, blow bubbles, float on their front & back, push off the wall, and kick on their front and back with assistance. Beginners: American Red Cross Level 2- Fundamental Aquatic SkillsThis class is for swimmers who are comfortable in the water. Students will work on independent floating, retrieving submerged objects, swimming on front and back independently, and treading water. Intermediate: American Red Cross Level 3  Stroke Development In this class, students must be able to swim independently on their front and back. Students will learn rotary breathing, elementary backstroke, scissors kick, dolphin kick, and kneeling dives. Advanced: American Red Cross Level 4 Stroke Improvement This class is for swimmers who can swim one full length of the pool front crawl and elementary backstroke. Students will learn breaststroke, back crawl, butterfly, and diving. All classes are 45 minutes long. Please have all children with shoulder length hair or longer, wear a bathing cap or tie their hair into a pony tail. Our classes are designed to cater to their individual needs and goals.Each session begins with a group warm-up, stretching, and practice of basic skills like kicking and floating. Then, we break off into smaller groups or individual sessions to work on specific swimming skills.To ensure the success of our lessons, we ask parents to fill out a form when registering their child. Whether your young or old, its never too late to learn how to swim. Medford High Swim Team Varsity Coach Mary Judge will be teaching adult learn to swim lessons this summer. Mary will be working with adults who are fearful or uncomfortable around water to teach the basics of swimming. Topics will include putting your face in the water, floating, kicking on your front, front crawl, and how to swim with a life jacket.

This scheduled time is dedicated to children, adults, and their families to attend open swim at Tufts Pool in a less crowded setting. Please attend the pool during this time if someone in your household has difficulty with sensory such as loud noises. Entry to the pool requires a Tufts Pool membership or daily fee pass.
