Learn the basics of pickleball in this 90-minute crash course!  All players will learn the basic rules/scoring, and will have the opportunity to actually PLAY a few games before they leave!Coached Play is a game-heavy session in which players will rotate partners/opponents while receiving in-game coaching tips/advice regarding your court positioning, shot selection, and technique!  This is a great way for improving players to understand more advanced concepts and elevate your overall abilities on court!

The Recreation Department and Medford Family Network is once again partnering to offer FREE Drop-in playtime at the Recreation Center. Led by Medford Family Network Instructor, Miss Cindy. Ride on scooter, tunnels, soccer, basketballs, slides, building blocks, and more will be set up in the gym to play with.No pre-registration is necessary. Participants will register when they arrive to the gym.
 
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM    Lunch Break Programs - Badminton Fridays
We’ve got tables set up for you to have your lunch and some great games like Uno, Skip-Bo, and cards to play. Plus, we’ll have adult coloring supplies if you want to get creative. And if you’re in the mood for some sports, we’ll have basketballs, a few pickleball paddles and plenty of balls, and badminton gear ready for you to use during the designated time. Bring your co-workers, friends, or come and meet some new people!

Join us for a fun-filled all sport sampler where you'll get to try out a variety of sports (examples include soccer, basketball, floor hockey, etc). It's a great way to stay active and discover new ways to have fun with friends.
 
9:00 AM - 10:00 AM    Wrestling Program - Wrestling Clinic Grades 2-5
This program will cover the basics of wrestling, and each practice will be formatted the same. We will start with a dynamic warm-up to ensure the athletes are prepared. We will then do technique work, learning the basics, takedowns, defense, and groundwork. We will then pick up the intensity briefly to apply what we have learned in that session to a match setting (with skill, ability, and safety as our priority). To finish, we will do conditioning through activities and games. I want to ensure each wrestler has some growth, no matter how small. By blending our focus on technique, applying it to real scenarios, and having fun, we can create the next generation of wrestlers and champions!My Name is Jacob Bastarache, and I am a passionate youth wrestling coach with several years of experience working with athletes of all skill levels and ages. As a former High School wrestler, I bring an understanding of the sport and a commitment to helping athletes reach their full potential. Additionally, I have five years of coaching experience in football and three years of coaching wrestling as an assistant at the youth and high school levels. Most notably, I was an assistant wrestling coach on the country's first Special Olympic Wrestling Team in Milford, MA.My wrestling achievements include: Over 100 career wins Natick Wrestling Captain 2016 Sectional Champion 2x All-State Qualifier 2x State Place winner 2016 State Runner-up 2x MetroWest Allstar 2x Baystate Allstar Top 5 at Lowell Holiday Tournament 2015 (85 teams) 3-year varsity letter winner My coaching philosophy is deeply rooted in creating a supportive and positive environment. I believe in developing well-rounded athletes through technical skills, physical conditioning, and sportsmanship. I want to ensure that every wrestler can learn and grow in this environment, designed to instill confidence in the athletes, allowing them to perform at their best while still having fun!

On a mission to get eaters of all ages and abilities, cooking, tasting, and thinking abouthealthy ingredients. Even the most reluctant eaters enjoy Kids’ Test Kitchen, where participation is encouraged, and the choice to taste is always one’s own.We’re on a mission to shake things up when it comes to kid food! Each class is a fun adventure where students get to discover new and familiar foods in their freshest forms. Then, they join forces to chop, slice, peel, measure, and cook until they create something delicious together. At the end, everyone gets to taste their tasty creations! Plus, each student leaves with a recipe card and a special ingredient or a sample of their dish to share what they’ve learned with family and friends.Lessons are planned to celebrate seasonal produce, whole grains, and legumes. * Menu subject to change to accommodate dietary restrictions.Kids have food allergies, but they shouldn’t miss out on the fun. The gym is going to be buzzing with excitement, featuring bikes, a kids' coaster, balls, tunnels, and loads of other fun activities for the little ones to enjoy! Keep them active and come to the Medford Rec Center.
 
2:15 PM - 3:15 PM    Sensory Friendly Open Gym - Sensory Friendly Open Gym
Sensory Friendly Open Gym is a dedicated time for children and their families who may  enjoy a quieter and less crowded open gym time. Our goal for this open gym time is create an environment that is not over stimulating compared to our other open Gym times. During Sensory Friendly Open Gym, we will decrease the lighting, and provide sensory toys and equipment. The gym will be divided into two separate spaces, one half will be for sports related free play. On the other half there will be matted areas, small sensory toys, large foam shapes and blue building blocks.

Open to Medford Residents only.Open gym is the perfect opportunity to swing by and enjoy some free playtime! 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM    Wrestling Program - Wrestling Clinic Grades 6-9
This program will cover the basics of wrestling, and each practice will be formatted the same. We will start with a dynamic warm-up to ensure the athletes are prepared. We will then do technique work, learning the basics, takedowns, defense, and groundwork. We will then pick up the intensity briefly to apply what we have learned in that session to a match setting (with skill, ability, and safety as our priority). To finish, we will do conditioning through activities and games. I want to ensure each wrestler has some growth, no matter how small. By blending our focus on technique, applying it to real scenarios, and having fun, we can create the next generation of wrestlers and champions!My Name is Jacob Bastarache, and I am a passionate youth wrestling coach with several years of experience working with athletes of all skill levels and ages. As a former High School wrestler, I bring an understanding of the sport and a commitment to helping athletes reach their full potential. Additionally, I have five years of coaching experience in football and three years of coaching wrestling as an assistant at the youth and high school levels. Most notably, I was an assistant wrestling coach on the country's first Special Olympic Wrestling Team in Milford, MA.My wrestling achievements include: Over 100 career wins Natick Wrestling Captain 2016 Sectional Champion 2x All-State Qualifier 2x State Place winner 2016 State Runner-up 2x MetroWest Allstar 2x Baystate Allstar Top 5 at Lowell Holiday Tournament 2015 (85 teams) 3-year varsity letter winner My coaching philosophy is deeply rooted in creating a supportive and positive environment. The Recreation Department offers drop in badminton. Badminton nets will be set up on the pickleball lined courts for free play. One court will be designation as beginners/ intermediate. The gym is going to be buzzing with excitement, featuring bikes, a kids' coaster, balls, tunnels, and loads of other fun activities for the little ones to enjoy! Keep them active and come to the Medford Rec Center.
 
2:15 PM - 3:15 PM    Sensory Friendly Open Gym - Sensory Friendly Open Gym
Sensory Friendly Open Gym is a dedicated time for children and their families who may  enjoy a quieter and less crowded open gym time. Our goal for this open gym time is create an environment that is not over stimulating compared to our other open Gym times. During Sensory Friendly Open Gym, we will decrease the lighting, and provide sensory toys and equipment. The gym will be divided into two separate spaces, one half will be for sports related free play. On the other half there will be matted areas, small sensory toys, large foam shapes and blue building blocks.

Open to Medford Residents only.Open gym is the perfect opportunity to swing by and enjoy some free playtime! Learn the basics of pickleball in this 90-minute crash course!  All players will learn the basic rules/scoring, and will have the opportunity to actually PLAY a few games before they leave!Coached Play is a game-heavy session in which players will rotate partners/opponents while receiving in-game coaching tips/advice regarding your court positioning, shot selection, and technique!  This is a great way for improving players to understand more advanced concepts and elevate your overall abilities on court!

Make your reservation by logging into your household account and clicking the link below. Reserve Court 1Reserve Court 2 The Medford Recreation Center has two pickleball courts lined in the gym. Residents and Non-Residents can reserve the court on Tuesday and Thursday morning (when available) for play. Groups can reserve up to 15 players per court. Recreation cannot give refunds for cancellations. Credits will be given if the department needs to cancel a reservation. Renters will not be given a refund or credit for cancelling. Recreation recommends a reservation is not made until the renter can confirm they are available to play and book no more than one month in advanced.

This program will cover the basics of wrestling, and each practice will be formatted the same. We will start with a dynamic warm-up to ensure the athletes are prepared. We will then do technique work, learning the basics, takedowns, defense, and groundwork. We will then pick up the intensity briefly to apply what we have learned in that session to a match setting (with skill, ability, and safety as our priority). To finish, we will do conditioning through activities and games. I want to ensure each wrestler has some growth, no matter how small. By blending our focus on technique, applying it to real scenarios, and having fun, we can create the next generation of wrestlers and champions!My Name is Jacob Bastarache, and I am a passionate youth wrestling coach with several years of experience working with athletes of all skill levels and ages. As a former High School wrestler, I bring an understanding of the sport and a commitment to helping athletes reach their full potential. Additionally, I have five years of coaching experience in football and three years of coaching wrestling as an assistant at the youth and high school levels. Each class is a fun adventure where students get to discover new and familiar foods in their freshest forms. Then, they join forces to chop, slice, peel, measure, and cook until they create something delicious together. At the end, everyone gets to taste their tasty creations! Come on over for some festive gingerbread house decorating, great music, and lots of fun! And guess what? You won’t have to worry about any clean-up afterward! All the beautiful houses will be showcased at the Holiday Extravaganza on Wednesday, December 4, from 4:30-6:30 PM at City Hall. Everyone will have a chance to vote for their favorite gingerbread house, and the one that gets the most votes will win a prize! If you'd like to take your creation home, you can pick it up after the event. Registration will be determined by the number of participants. Therefore, if your family would like to receive one gingerbread house, please register one individual. If you would like to receive two gingerbread houses, please register two individuals.Below you will see what is included in your kit that will be provided. We will have additional white frosting with food coloring to create different colors but feel free to bring along any extra decorations you'd like to add for a personal touch!Once you finish your gingerbread house, participants and families may enjoy an open gym.

Sensory Friendly Open Gym is a dedicated time for children and their families who may  enjoy a quieter and less crowded open gym time. Our goal for this open gym time is create an environment that is not over stimulating compared to our other open Gym times. During Sensory Friendly Open Gym, we will decrease the lighting, and provide sensory toys and equipment. The gym will be divided into two separate spaces, one half will be for sports related free play. On the other half there will be matted areas, small sensory toys, large foam shapes and blue building blocks.

Our non-competitive games will ensure that everyone is involved and enjoying themselves as they develop their skills in a lively atmosphere.Additionally, we’ll incorporate elements of directionality, spatial awareness, and crossing the midline into our activities. Each class will support good posture, eye focus, and coordinating both sides of the body—with tons of fun equipment and plenty of encouragement along the way! We can’t wait to see everyone there!
