Special Olympics Information

Inclusive sport programming with Special Olympics is offered free of charge throughout the community to provide opportunity to athletes for their entire lives – not just in schools! Our youngest athlete right now is two, and our oldest is 79 – with some athletes competing in nine of our 23 sports throughout the year. There are about 150 local programs throughout the state, but listed are some of the programs close to Medford:
 




  • Hormel Track – Medford, MA; Unified (for people with and without intellectual disabilities) track and field in the spring for all ages.


  • Handi-Racket Tennis – Medford, MA; Traditional (just for people with intellectual disabilities) tennis in the spring.


  • North Section Bowling, Sailing, and Skating – Malden, MA; Traditional figure skating in the winter, roller skating in the spring, and bocce and sailing in the summer for all ages.


  • Melrose Rotary – Melrose, MA; Unified softball in the summer for adults.


  • Arlington Boys and Girls Club – Traditional swimming in the spring for all ages.


  • Belmont SPORT – Belmont, MA; Traditional and Unified sports for all ages in alpine skiing, basketball, figure skating, and floor hockey in the winter; swimming, track, tennis, powerlifting, and volleyball in the spring; bocce, cycling, golf, sailing, and softball in the summer; soccer and flag football in the fall.


  • Cambridge – Cambridge, MA; Traditional sports for all ages in basketball in the winter; swimming, track, tennis, powerlifting, and volleyball in the spring.


  • Harvard College Special Olympics – Unified candlepin bowling in the winter and spring, and flag football in the fall for all ages.


  • Brookline – Brookline, MA; Unified and Traditional (just for people with intellectual disabilities) sports for all ages in basketball in the winter; swimming, track, and tennis in the spring; softball in the summer; and flag football and cheerleading in the spring.
