Medford Recreation has become an authorized provider to teach American Red Cross swim lessons at Tufts Pool this Summer. Swim lessons will remain the same as previous years, but our Instructors will now be teaching the Red Cross curriculum.
Please register your child for the level you feel is appropriate. On the first day of class, Instructors will be evaluating skills and move children into the appropriate levels.
Beginners: American Red Cross Level 1- Introduction to Water Skills
In this class, children are new to swimming. Students will learn how to enter & exit the pool, put their face in the water, blow bubbles, float on their front & back, push off the wall, and kick on their front and back with assistance.
Beginners: American Red Cross Level 2- Fundamental Aquatic Skills
This class is for swimmers who are comfortable in the water. Students will work on independent floating, retrieving submerged objects, swimming on front and back independently, and treading water.
Intermediate: American Red Cross Level 3 Stroke Development
In this class, students must be able to swim independently on their front and back. Students will learn rotary breathing, elementary backstroke, scissors kick, dolphin kick, and kneeling dives.
Advanced: American Red Cross Level 4 Stroke Improvement
This class is for swimmers who can swim one full length of the pool front crawl and elementary backstroke. Students will learn breaststroke, back crawl, butterfly, and diving.
All classes are 45 minutes long.
Please have all children with shoulder length hair or longer, wear a bathing cap or tie their hair into a pony tail. Swim goggles are recommended.
