Park Rules and Regulations


Park Regulations:
  • Sec. 62-91. - Motor vehicles in parks or playgrounds.
  • Prohibited acts.No person shall drive, park, traverse or otherwise operate any motor vehicle, motorcycle, motorized bicycle or moped in or upon any public park or playground, or in any manner dispose of or abandon any motor vehicle, motorcycle, motorized bicycle, or moped in any public park or playground
(b) Application of section. The provisions of this section shall not apply to police, fire or other emergency vehicles, city department of public works vehicles, or any other vehicle the entry of which upon the public park or playground is authorized by the board of park commissioners.
  • Sec. 62-92. - Hitting golf balls; penalty for violation of section.
No person shall hit a golf ball in any park or playground. There shall be a $50.00 fine for violation of this section.
  • Sec. 62-93. - Setting fires; penalty for violation of section.
No person shall set fire in any portion of any park or playground. There shall be a $300.00 fine for violation of this section.
  • Sec. 62-94. - Graffiti; penalty for violation of section.
No person shall cause any graffiti to be put on any item, statue, fence or plaque in any park or playground or public building. There shall be a fine for a violation of this section of $300.00.
  • Sec. 62-95. - At-large animals; waste material pickup; penalty for violation of section.
No person owning, harboring or having custody or control of a dog or animal shall permit said dog or animal to run free at any park or playground. A person owning, harboring or having custody or control of a dog or animal in a park or playground shall be responsible for picking up any waste material deposited by said dog or animal. No dogs or animals shall be allowed on the grounds or in the water at Wright's Pond at anytime, with the exception of a service animal.
There shall be a fine of $200.00 for violation of this section. The provisions of this section may be enforced by any city police officer, city animal control officer or the director of public health or her designee.
  • Sec. 62-96. – Persons in parks at night
No person or group of persons shall go upon or remain in a public park or public playground of the city for any purpose on any day after 9:00 p.m. or before 6:00 a.m. or until 10:30 p.m. in lighted parks. This shall not apply to activities scheduled by the board of park commissioners or by the Metropolitan District Commission. A sign shall be posted with fines, setting forth violations and hours of operation.

General Park Rules: Per order of the Medford Parks Commission:

  1. No dogs allowed off-leash
  2. Alcoholic beverages, glass, or smoking is prohibited.
  3. If extreme wet conditions are present, use of the fields should be suspended to prevent damage.
  4. Unless permitted by the Parks Commission, the field is closed to the public between 9:00pm-6:00am.
 
Tennis Court Rules:
  1. Limit play to one hour if others are waiting.
  2. If ice or wet conditions are present, courts are closed.
  3. Courts are open from dawn to dusk unless otherwise posted.
  4. Use courts at your own risk.
 
Pickleball Court Rules:
  1. Courts are open Monday-Sunday 8:00am-8:00pm
  2. Limit play to one hour if others are waiting
  3. If the weather is wet or icy, the courts are closed.
  4. The City of Medford does not use Playtime Scheduler. Please use this private app to meet pickleball players. It does not give you a permit to use the pickleball courts.   
  5. Places2Play is a private website. Please refer to the Medord Recreation website for pickleball information. 
  6. No permits/reservations are allowed at this time for individual or group play.
  7. Leagues, Tournaments, and Lessons require a park permit. 
  8. Use courts at your own risk.
 
Use of Permits:
  1. Permits are required to teach lessons or host games.
  2. Permit holders must clean up after use.
  3. Fields/Courts can be reserved for recreation programs, city events, or athletics. Please view permit calendar (located at MedfordRecreation.org) for reservations.
  4. Park permits are not transferable.
  5. Any damage done by ball playing during the time of a permit will be paid promptly by the club to which the permit is given.
