The gym is going to be buzzing with excitement, featuring bikes, a kids' coaster, balls, tunnels, and loads of other fun activities for the little ones to enjoy! 9:00 AM - 9:45 AM    Sensory Friendly Open Gym - Sensory Friendly Open Gym Saturdays
Sensory Friendly Open Gym is a dedicated time for children and their families who may  enjoy a quieter and less crowded open gym time. Our goal for this open gym time is create an environment that is not over stimulating compared to our other open Gym times. During Sensory Friendly Open Gym, we will decrease the lighting, and provide sensory toys and equipment. The gym will be divided into two separate spaces, one half will be for sports related free play. On the other half there will be matted areas, small sensory toys, large foam shapes and blue building blocks.Please be mindful of the dates/schedule as there are some days off during the session and in between sessions. 
 
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM    Wrestling Program - Girls Wrestling Clinic
This program will cover the basics of wrestling, and each practice will be formatted the same. We will start with a dynamic warm-up to ensure the athletes are prepared. We will then do technique work, learning the basics, takedowns, defense, and groundwork. We will then pick up the intensity briefly to apply what we have learned in that session to a match setting (with skill, ability, and safety as our priority). To finish, we will do conditioning through activities and games. I want to ensure each wrestler has some growth, no matter how small. By blending our focus on technique, applying it to real scenarios, and having fun, we can create the next generation of wrestlers and champions!My Name is Jacob Bastarache, and I am a passionate youth wrestling coach with several years of experience working with athletes of all skill levels and ages. As a former High School wrestler, I bring an understanding of the sport and a commitment to helping athletes reach their full potential. Additionally, I have five years of coaching experience in football and three years of coaching wrestling as an assistant at the youth and high school levels. Most notably, I was an assistant wrestling coach on the country's first Special Olympic Wrestling Team in Milford, MA.My wrestling achievements include: Over 100 career wins Natick Wrestling Captain 2016 Sectional Champion 2x All-State Qualifier 2x State Place winner 2016 State Runner-up 2x MetroWest Allstar 2x Baystate Allstar Top 5 at Lowell Holiday Tournament 2015 (85 teams) 3-year varsity letter winner My coaching philosophy is deeply rooted in creating a supportive and positive environment. I believe in developing well-rounded athletes through technical skills, physical conditioning, and sportsmanship. I want to ensure that every wrestler can learn and grow in this environment, designed to instill confidence in the athletes, allowing them to perform at their best while still having fun!

On a mission to get eaters of all ages and abilities, cooking, tasting, and thinking abouthealthy ingredients. Even the most reluctant eaters enjoy Kids’ Test Kitchen, where participation is encouraged, and the choice to taste is always one’s own.We’re on a mission to shake things up when it comes to kid food! Each class is a fun adventure where students get to discover new and familiar foods in their freshest forms. Then, they join forces to chop, slice, peel, measure, and cook until they create something delicious together. At the end, everyone gets to taste their tasty creations! Plus, each student leaves with a recipe card and a special ingredient or a sample of their dish to share what they’ve learned with family and friends.Lessons are planned to celebrate seasonal produce, whole grains, and legumes. * Menu subject to change to accommodate dietary restrictions.Kids have food allergies, but they shouldn’t miss out on the fun. Join us for a fun-filled all sport sampler where you'll get to try out a variety of sports (examples include soccer, basketball, floor hockey, etc). It's a great way to stay active and discover new ways to have fun with friends.

The Recreation Department and Medford Family Network is once again partnering to offer FREE Drop-in playtime at the Recreation Center. Led by Medford Family Network Instructor, Miss Cindy. Ride on scooter, tunnels, soccer, basketballs, slides, building blocks, and more will be set up in the gym to play with.No pre-registration is necessary. Participants will register when they arrive to the gym.

Medford Recreation coordination station, indoors at the recreation center. all equipment provided.  Coach Sue will teach various skills to develop stronger coordination. This will include directionality, spatial awareness, crossing the midline, and balance. Basic skills -hopping, skipping, running, galloping and jumping will be practiced each session in a lively, non competitive atmosphere. To strengthen balance low balance beams, rolling, poses, and balance pads. To strengthen directionality and focus scooter boards and parachutes will be used. Instruction will focus on development and enjoyment of the various strengthening activities. Each class will end with a new challenging obstacle course. Please wear sneakers.

Looking for a fun and easy way to stay active? Join our fit & fun line dancing class! This is the perfect way to get low-impact exercise while learning beginner and beginner-plus line dance routines set to a variety of music genres. This is a drop in program. Therefore you do not need to register. Sensory Friendly Open Gym is a dedicated time for children and their families who may  enjoy a quieter and less crowded open gym time. Our goal for this open gym time is create an environment that is not over stimulating compared to our other open Gym times. During Sensory Friendly Open Gym, we will decrease the lighting, and provide sensory toys and equipment. The gym will be divided into two separate spaces, one half will be for sports related free play. Medford Recreation coordination station, indoors at the recreation center. all equipment provided.  Coach Sue will teach various skills to develop stronger coordination. This will include directionality, spatial awareness, crossing the midline, and balance. Basic skills -hopping, skipping, running, galloping and jumping will be practiced each session in a lively, non competitive atmosphere. To strengthen balance low balance beams, rolling, poses, and balance pads. To strengthen directionality and focus scooter boards and parachutes will be used. Instruction will focus on development and enjoyment of the various strengthening activities. Each class will end with a new challenging obstacle course. Please wear sneakers.      
 
7:00 PM - 7:45 PM    Middle School Basketball Rec League - Basketball League Optional Practice
Coach Skerry, in collaboration with Medford Recreation, is pleased to announce the establishment of a Recreation Basketball League for the upcoming Spring season. This league is open to both boys and girls in grades 5-8, regardless of their prior basketball experience. The primary goal is to provide a fun outdoor environment while helping participants develop new basketball skills. Evaluations are scheduled for April 13th at 6:00 PM at the Barry Park Basketball Courts. Players will be organized into teams, ensuring a balanced mix of skill levels. Regular games will take place every Sunday between 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at either Barry Park or the Recreation Center, should inclement weather arise. Specific game times will be confirmed once teams are formed. The game schedule includes dates on April 27, May 4, May 11, May 18, June 1, and June 8. In addition, optional practice sessions will be held on Monday evenings at the Recreation Center from 7:00 PM to 7:45 PM. Each player will receive a reversible basketball jersey. We encourage everyone to register for the league. There is no need to register for the evaluations or practice sessions.

This is the perfect way to get low-impact exercise while learning beginner and beginner-plus line dance routines set to a variety of music genres. This is a drop in program. Therefore you do not need to register.
